I got a call the other day from a young lady who is relocating to St. Louis from Los Angeles in order to attend medical school here. It turned out that she knew next to nothing about the St. Louis area and I ended up talking to her for over an hour, telling her about some of the wonderful things about St. Louis. By the end of our
conversation she was psyched to be moving here and I thought that some of you folks might get a kick out of some of the things that I pointed out to her about the St. Louis area that made her so excited.
Housing Values - The young lady was amazed when I emailed her some listings that were currently available for rent here in St. Louis. For what she was expecting to pay for a small apartment, she's going to be able to rent a house with a garage and a back yard in a decent neighborhood. She was amazed when I told her that for less than $150,000 that she could buy a pretty decent house in a decent neighborhood if she so desired. If you like, you can utilize my web page to search the local MLS.
Commute - While people in St. Louis sometimes think that they have it bad when it comes to commuting, most of these folks have never been to Houston! Or LA or any number of other cities with really bad commutes. St. Louis actually has a very well developed transportation infrastructure compared to many similar sized cities. Within a 20 minute commute of where she's going to be going to school at, she had
her choice of housing stock ranging from dense urban, to suburban. If she had been willing to commute 40 minutes, I could have sold her a farm!
Activities - Not to sound like the chamber of commerce here or anything, but St. Louis does pretty much have something for everybody. While a lot of people from the coasts tend to think of the Midwest as being fly-over country, void of anything cultural or interesting to do. This couldn't be further from the truth. St. Louis is the home of many world class cultural institutions such as the St. Louis Symphony, the St. Louis Zoo, Forest Park, as well as many more.
What a lot of people don't realize is that while the actual city of St. Louis only has about 365,000 people living in it, the metropolitan area is home to almost 3,000,000 people. I don't care if you're into pink poodles or salsa dancing, while there may not be 25 different places that cater to your fancy, I'm sure that you can find one or two within an easy drive!
Location - No matter how cool your city is, there will be times when you'll want to get away. From St. Louis you are within a five hour drive of Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, Louisville, Memphis, Little Rock, Branson, Kansas City and Des Moines. Within a full day's drive you can be at the gulf coast or within spitting distance of the east
coast. From Lambert International you can fly to Florida or California for less than $100.00 or so!
Also within an easy day's drive from St. Louis is the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as several other major lakes, as well as wineries and other interesting destinations!
Actually, there is a lot more that I could write about, but I think that you can catch my drift from this post. So, if you're thinking about a great place to relocate or maybe just to visit, keep St. Louis in mind. If you like, you can check out my web page's "Information On The St. Louis Area" page. From that page you can link to our "Things To Do In St. Louis" page. These pages also have links to demographical information about St. Louis and about the history of St. Louis.
If you're thinking about moving here, I have written about many of the communites and neighborhoods here in St. Louis too.
Please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to serve as your tour guide to St. Louis and the surrounding area.
